I am an American. That's the way most of us put it, just matter of factly. They are plain words, those four. You could write them on your thumbnail, or you could sweep them clear across a bright autumn sky. But remember too, that they are more than words. They are a way of life. So whenever you speak them, speak them firmly; speak them proudly; speak them gratefully. I am an American. ... a tradition
I hate to bring this up (but that doesn't stop me doing so...I need to think about that a bit later) but the mental illness thing is rapidly being taken up as a meme by the more extreme opponents of reasonable gun control laws. Again, apologies for bring up the phrase "gun control" as it is not appropriate for a lengthy discussion in this thread (laughably transparent attempt at diversion of blame), but si I think has just - for me at least - explained the difference between mental illness and outright bastardy - "craziness". In the spirit of Colbertian "truthiness" I am now going to argue (not here, saving it for the future) that mental illness is not "craziness". "Craziness" is just plain ornery bastardry of the anti-government (any government, not just the Obama socialist-Muslim regime) type. No self-respecting mentally ill person would have anything to do with craziness.
